Buying a second-hand Volkswagen T3

Let’s get started – today I’m beginning my search to buy a second-hand Volkswagen T3.

Ideally, and most conveniently, I’ll find a van from within Spain, as this will save us the extra costs of importing it from abroad, plus the paperwork, MOT and registering it in Spain… so the sensible thing to do is to start by looking on the Spanish market.

Where should I look to buy a second-hand Volkswagen T3?

To search in Spain, the simplest option is to use online classifieds sites. I’d start with Wallapop, as it’s really taking off. Then I’d have a look on Milanuncios, where you can also find things that might not have been listed on Wallapop. These two sites dominate the market; it would be very unusual not to find what you’re looking for there, but you can also search on autoscout24.es

What I’ve found is that there aren’t many listings – just a couple on Milanuncios, and most are on Wallapop. I’ve also joined Facebook groups and, of course, specialist forums for Volkswagen vans.

I’ve started contacting sellers, but without much success. What I’ve seen so far hasn’t convinced me, though I’m in no rush, so I’ll just be patient – something suitable is bound to come up eventually.

On the forums, people suggest I look abroad. Although, as I mentioned at the start, I’m not keen on the idea at first glance, as it adds complications and extra costs to the potential purchase.
They also tell me there’s a website called Busman that specialises in T3 Syncro vans. The owner’s service involves delivering the van right to your doorstep.
I’ve had a look at their website and the van sales section – there are some really cool ones, but they’re priced too high for what I’m willing to spend initially on this project.

I’ve got my work cut out for me, as between the websites, forums and Facebook groups, I’m going to be swamped, but I’m sure I’ll find something interesting sooner or later.
