What is a Danfo bus?

Danfo buses are a popular form of transport in Nigeria, particularly in the city of Lagos. These buses are known for their bright yellow colour and their ability to carry large numbers of passengers.

Danfo buses are driven by drivers known as ‘Danfo drivers’. These drivers are renowned for their ability to manoeuvre through Lagos’ chaotic traffic and for their expert knowledge of the city’s routes.

Despite being a popular form of transport, they are also known for being unsafe due to a lack of proper maintenance and government regulation. Many of these buses are in poor condition and lack basic safety equipment, such as seatbelts and brakes.

Furthermore, they are also known to be a major source of pollution in the city due to a lack of regulation regarding exhaust emissions.

Despite these problems, Danfo buses remain an important means of transport for many people in Lagos due to their low cost and availability.

As can be seen in the images, many of them are Volkswagen T3s in that distinctive yellow colour. In fact, the T3s are the most common and are known as Danfo Bus T3 Paragon.
